CICA Minor Injuries compensation.

How the CICA decides compensation awards for minor injuries.

The CICA, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority usually disregards the small injuries such as a individual bruises, bloodshot eyes, headaches, scratches and the like. Clearly, the state cannot compensate individuals for inconsequential injuries.

However, the CICA will compensate applicants if they have THREE of this type of injury: bloody nose, widespread bruising, black eyes, loosened teeth, cuts,  hair pulled from scalp, etc. The applicant will need to show that they have suffered three of these minor multiple injuries, ONE of which was still persisting at least six weeks after the assault AND they have attended for medical advice/treatment on TWO occasions within the six week period. So, a couple of bruises is not sufficient, given they would usually disappear after a week or so.

Typically an applicant would have sought medical treatment on the day of the incident and then sometime within the six week period. It is not necessary to visit your GP at the end of the six week period, just that you are still being troubled by one of the minor injuries for at least six weeks.
